There is more than enough light to play in otherwise total darkness, definitely in a venue where the light on stage is very poor. Each arm is seperately adjustable and can easily light 2 seperate sheets/pages fully. When the brightest light isn't necessary, you can use the lower light settings to conserve power. The only reason I rated it a 9 instead of a 10 is that it would be a little better if the attaching clip was a little stronger which would make it less prone to tipping on very thin surfaces like a standard music stand.
